Kolcraft was started in 1946 by Leo Koltun in post World War II Chicago. He began by making cotton pads for playpens, but had developed the all-around crib and playard bumper pad by 1949 when he found himself with extra cotton. By 1951, Kolcraft began manufacturing other types of pads, including crib mattresses, and has been the country’s #1 mattress manufacturer ever since. 1979 brought the beginning of Kolcraft’s innovative plastic products, such as the Carri-Cradle – the first infant carrier/rocker with a carrying handle. The company eventually expanded its selection of products to offer everything from strollers and playards to high chairs and walkers. In particular, Kolcraft has been one of the nation’s largest stroller providers since 1994. More recently, Kolcraft has added new and exciting products such as bassinets, bouncers, swings and juvenile furniture to its line. They’ve also joined with other industry leaders such as Sealy, Sesame Beginnings, Jeep and Nascar to provide an even wider selection of products for your kids!
